A father learns how to do his daughter's hair for the first time in the Oscar-winning short film Hair Love.
I've been a fan and follower of former football player turned director/writer/producer Matthew A. Cherry on social media for a number of years now. When I first heard about the premise for his animated short through Twitter and his Kickstarter campaign, I immediately had to donate what I could to the project. It was a needed change from the way black fathers are too often depicted. This heartwarming film follows a father taking on hair duty for his black daughter, a task often relegated to mothers. It's such a beautiful piece that even upon the 4th rewatch, leaves me with all the feels. The film was also adapted into a children's book.
If you're ready to laugh and tear up a little bit too at that ending, check out Cherry's Hair Love below.
