SUNDAY SHORT: GUISADO ON SUNSET

For today's Sunday Short, a callback to the days of Craigslist "missed connections".

During my college years, many a weekend was spent commuting from Long Island into the city. It was a time when we knew which Brooklyn bars didn't check ID, attending a DIY show in a random building was the norm, and actually making the last LIRR train back to campus was the ultimate achievement.

In the city that never sleeps, it's not uncommon to have an intimate encounter with a stranger. It could be as simple as an exchanged look after something crazy happen on the train or in my case, those random convos at a concert. You vibe for a while but neither of you thinks to exchange info until after the energy of the crowd has created distance between you. You're left with that lingering "what if" feeling. I've never published a "missed connections" post on Craigslist, but there were quite a few times where I thought maybe, just maybe that random stranger this time wrote about me (it never happened).

All of that is to say I was pleasantly surprised when I happened upon Terence Nance's short film Guisado on Sunset. The short recounts a missed connection at a Guisado on Sunset, including him hitting us with the throwback by making a "missed connections" post. It's an encounter that brought me back to those college days of wondering if I'll ever see that person again. Because I love a good happy ending, hopefully, he does find the girl wearing the denim jacket and black leggings at the Guisado on Sunset.

You can check out the film below.
